Человек без прошлого (2025)

A man wakes up in an unknown city not knowing who he is, where he is, or why.
Written by Steven Paul and directed by James Bamford, Man with No Past is an above average video on demand film that seemingly came a bit quietly if the word on social media is to be believed. That being said, it was released in a period where most people had so much on their minds, they could barely follow current affairs, much less what was just released in the film world. That being said, the story presented here has some very timely elements that come into play with the ****SPOILER**** time travel ***END SPOILER**** aspect of the story. Here, the story is interesting with a few unexpected elements here and there, some twists and turns that don’t all work, leading to an overall entertaining film. The writing works well with a few off bits here and there and the direction brings it to the screen with clarity and a bit of style.
The cast here is interesting and while Jon Voigt is top billed, his character is not the lead. Instead, Adam Woodward is the lead as Ryder, a man of whom we get to see multiple versions throughout the film’s run time and a character that Woodward plays quite well, giving each version some of the same characteristics and a few differences to make watching him interesting. In terms of being a leading man, he does quite well on that front too. Stealing a few scenes with his presence and a particular gravitas is Marton Csokas as Soach. As has become a habit for him, he steels a few scenes throughout the film and shows that his presence can out-presence just about anyone, stealing scenes from lead Woodward and from Voigt. Joining these three are Charlotte Vega as Morgan and Charlotte Weston as Shelly. Both are good here and Weston shines with her no-nonsense take on the character and how she brings her to life with that extra glimmer in her eyes.
The film’s style and look here are fun to watch with difference in each of the time period the story goes to, bringing the work of cinematographer Frank Meyer to the front and giving it space to develop and shine. The images here are lovely and well lit, giving the viewer a solid view into the story and giving them images that are easy to watch, easy to enjoy. The work of those behind the camera (not only Meyer) here is fantastic and it brings the film to the screen in beautiful style. The editing by Robert A. Ferretti and Trevor Mirosh play with these images just right, giving them the life they need and allowing the viewer to see everything, even the fight scenes.
Man with No Past is a solid mid-range action drama with touches of sci-fi. The action bits are solid, the acting works so the drama works, and the looks of it all is really good. This is one of those movies that will fly right under the radar of most of those who should pay attention, so don’t skip it, it might just surprise you.
